Wegovy® Semaglutide Weight Loss Tablets at Neils Pharmacy

Prescriber-Led Oral Weight Management in Prescot

At Neils Pharmacy, Wegovy® semaglutide tablets may be considered through our private, prescriber-led weight management clinic in Prescot.

Wegovy tablets are a once-daily prescription weight loss medicine for suitable adults living with obesity, or those who are overweight and have an associated weight-related health condition.

👩‍⚕️ Treatment is supplied only after a full clinical consultation with a Pharmacist Independent Prescriber. This allows us to assess whether oral semaglutide is safe, clinically appropriate and suitable for your individual circumstances.

What Are Wegovy® Semaglutide Tablets?

Wegovy tablets contain semaglutide, a medicine belonging to a group called GLP-1 receptor agonists.

Semaglutide acts in a similar way to a naturally occurring hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1, or GLP-1. This hormone is involved in appetite regulation and is normally released by the body after eating.

Wegovy tablets act on areas of the brain involved in appetite. They may help you feel fuller, feel less hungry and experience fewer food cravings, which can support a reduced food intake.

The medicine is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet, increased physical activity and ongoing weight-management support.

How Do Wegovy® Tablets Support Weight Loss?

Wegovy tablets may support weight management by:

🍽️ Reducing appetite and feelings of hunger

✅ Helping you feel fuller after meals

🧠 Reducing food cravings

🥗 Helping you follow a reduced-calorie eating plan

These effects can support gradual weight loss when treatment is combined with sustainable changes to diet, activity and everyday habits.

Who May Be Suitable for Wegovy® Tablets?

Wegovy tablets may be considered for adults who:

⚖️ Have a BMI of 30 or above, or

🫀 Have a BMI of 27 or above with at least one weight-related health condition

Weight-related conditions may include high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol or blood-fat levels, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.

🩺 Every patient is assessed individually. Meeting the BMI criteria does not guarantee a prescription. Treatment is supplied only where it is considered safe and clinically appropriate.

What Will Be Assessed?

During your private consultation, our Pharmacist Independent Prescriber will review:

✔️ Your current weight and BMI

✔️ Your medical history and relevant health conditions

✔️ Your prescription, pharmacy and non-prescription medicines

✔️ Previous weight-loss attempts and treatments

✔️ Your weight-management goals

✔️ Whether you can follow the specific administration instructions for the tablets

You must provide complete and accurate information so that treatment can be prescribed safely.

When Wegovy® Tablets May Not Be Suitable

Wegovy tablets may not be appropriate, or may require additional clinical consideration, if you:

🤰 Are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding

⚠️ Have an allergy to semaglutide or another ingredient in the tablets

🫃 Have a history of pancreatitis or certain significant digestive conditions

👁️ Have diabetic eye disease or unexplained changes in your vision

🩸 Use insulin or certain medicines for diabetes

💧 Have an increased risk of dehydration

🫘 Have severe kidney or liver impairment

💊 Already use another GLP-1 receptor agonist

This is not a complete suitability checklist. Your medical history and current medicines will be reviewed carefully before a prescribing decision is made.

How to Take Wegovy® Tablets

Wegovy is taken as one tablet once daily. It must be taken in a specific way because food, drinks and other oral medicines can reduce the amount of semaglutide absorbed by your body.

Daily administration instructions

🌙 Fast for at least 8 hours before taking the tablet

💊 Take one tablet only on an empty stomach

💧 Swallow it whole with a small amount of plain water, no more than 120ml

⛔ Do not split, crush or chew the tablet

⏳ Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking another oral medicine

Taking the tablet incorrectly may reduce the amount of medicine absorbed and could affect your response to treatment.

✅ Always follow the personalised instructions given by your prescriber.

Wegovy® Tablet Dose Progression

Treatment usually begins at a lower dose. The strength is increased gradually to help your body adjust to semaglutide and reduce the likelihood or severity of digestive side effects.

The authorised dose progression is:

💊 Month 1: 1.5mg once daily

💊 Month 2: 4mg once daily

💊 Month 3: 9mg once daily

💊 Month 4 onwards: 25mg once daily

There is normally a minimum of one month at each dose level. Where necessary, your prescriber may keep you at a previous dose for longer.

Availability can vary between strengths. Your prescriber will explain the available and clinically appropriate treatment pathway during your consultation.

⚠️ Never combine several lower-strength tablets to reproduce a higher dose. Wegovy should be taken as one tablet per day in the strength prescribed.

Wegovy® Semaglutide Tablet Prices

The cost of Wegovy tablets depends on the strength prescribed and current medicine availability.

• Wegovy 1.5mg tablets – £150

What Should I Do If I Miss a Dose?

If you miss a dose, skip the missed tablet and take your next scheduled dose the following day.

Do not take two tablets on the same day to make up for a missed dose.

Contact Neils Pharmacy if you have missed several doses or are unsure how to continue your treatment.

Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, Wegovy tablets can cause side effects. Digestive symptoms are especially common when treatment is started or the dose is increased.

Common side effects may include:

🤢 Nausea

🤮 Vomiting

🚽 Diarrhoea

🧻 Constipation

😣 Abdominal pain or discomfort

💨 Indigestion, bloating or wind

🤕 Headache

😴 Tiredness

Vomiting and diarrhoea can cause dehydration. Maintaining an appropriate fluid intake is particularly important if you have kidney problems.

Your pharmacist will explain what side effects to expect, how they may be managed and when you should seek further medical advice.

When to Seek Urgent Medical Advice

Seek urgent medical advice if you experience:

🚨 Severe and persistent abdominal pain, particularly if it spreads to your back

🚨 Swelling, breathing difficulty or other signs of a serious allergic reaction

🚨 Severe vomiting, diarrhoea or symptoms of significant dehydration

🚨 Sudden loss of vision or rapidly worsening eyesight

🚨 Severe pain that could indicate a gallbladder problem

Contact your prescriber, GP, NHS 111 or the emergency services depending on the nature and severity of your symptoms.

Wegovy® Tablets or Wegovy® Injections?

Wegovy is available in tablet and injection formulations. Both contain semaglutide, but their strengths, dosing schedules and administration instructions are different.

💊 Wegovy tablets are taken once daily following an overnight fast, with a wait of at least 30 minutes before food, drinks or other oral medicines.

💉 Wegovy injections are normally administered under the skin once weekly.

One formulation is not automatically better than the other. Your prescriber will consider your health, current treatment, routine, preferences and ability to follow the administration instructions.

The tablet and injection strengths are not directly interchangeable. Any change between formulations must be reviewed and authorised by a prescriber.

Supporting Long-Term Weight Management

Wegovy tablets should be used as part of a wider weight-management programme rather than as a standalone solution.

🥗 Follow a balanced, reduced-calorie eating plan

🏃 Increase physical activity where medically appropriate

💧 Maintain an appropriate fluid intake

📊 Attend your recommended progress and dose reviews

🔁 Develop healthy habits that can be maintained over the longer term

Medication may support weight loss, but sustainable results depend on maintaining appropriate lifestyle changes.

Considering Other Weight Loss Treatments?

Wegovy tablets are one option that may be considered through our private clinic. Depending on your assessment, you may instead be suitable for an injectable medicine or another weight-management approach.

Your Pharmacist Independent Prescriber will explain the available options and help identify the most appropriate treatment, if any, for your circumstances.
